Happy Independence Day

On days like this my thoughts and prayers turn toward the heavy price paid for freedom in our nation and how grateful I am to those who were willing to pay it.

Dwight D. Eisenhower once said, "Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed - else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die."

Over several generations my own family has shouldered the responsibility to contribute to the preservation of and continuation of freedom in our nation.

My grandfather fought in World War II.

My uncle served in Vietnam.

And my younger brother has served our nation in distinguished service for over twenty years earning six purple hearts and five bronze stars in the process! He stands proud and tall in the company of less than a dozen men in military history to have earned that unique status.

I love America.

I love freedom.

And I appreciate the sacrifice of our Armed Forces.

While they serve our nation we can enjoy the benefits of knowing that freedom is being earned and refreshed.
